بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ﴿١﴾

ar-raḥmān

The Most Merciful
عَلَّمَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ﴿٢﴾

ʿallama l-qur'ān

Taught the Qur’ān,
خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ ﴿٣﴾

khalaqa l-insān

Created man,
عَلَّمَهُ ٱلْبَيَانَ ﴿٤﴾

ʿallamahu l-bayān

[And] taught him eloquence.
ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍ ﴿٥﴾

ash-shamsu wal-qamaru biḥusbān

The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation,
وَٱلنَّجْمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ ﴿٦﴾

wan-najmu wash-shajaru yasjudān

And the stars and trees prostrate.

They submit obediently to the laws of Allāh. See 22:18. An additional meaning of "najm" is vegetation of a kind without a trunk, stalk or stem.
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلْمِيزَانَ ﴿٧﴾

was-samā'a rafaʿahā wawaḍaʿa l-mīzān

And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance
أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْمِيزَانِ ﴿٨﴾

allā taṭghaw fi l-mīzān

That you not transgress within the balance.
وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلْوَزْنَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا۟ ٱلْمِيزَانَ ﴿٩﴾

wa'aqīmu l-wazna bil-qisṭi walā tukhsiru l-mīzān

And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.
وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ ﴿١٠﴾

wal-arḍa waḍaʿahā lil-anām

And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.
فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ وَٱلنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ ٱلْأَكْمَامِ ﴿١١﴾

fīhā fākihatuw wan-nakhlu dhātu l-akmām

Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]
وَٱلْحَبُّ ذُو ٱلْعَصْفِ وَٱلرَّيْحَانُ ﴿١٢﴾

wal-ḥabbu dhu l-ʿaṣfi war-rayḥān

And grain having husks and scented plants.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿١٣﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

Literally, "you two," addressing the species of mankind and jinn.
خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ كَٱلْفَخَّارِ ﴿١٤﴾

khalaqa l-insāna min ṣalṣālin kal-fakhkhār

He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.
وَخَلَقَ ٱلْجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٍ مِّن نَّارٍ ﴿١٥﴾

wakhalaqa l-jānna mim mārijim min nār

And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿١٦﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
رَبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَغْرِبَيْنِ ﴿١٧﴾

rabbu l-mashriqayni warabbu l-maghribayn

[He is] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets.

i.e., the points of sunrise in the east and sunset in the west in both summer and winter.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿١٨﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
مَرَجَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ ﴿١٩﴾

maraja l-baḥrayni yaltaqiyān

He released the two seas, meeting [one another];

Two bodies of water or two sea waters of distinct characteristics.
بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌ لَّا يَبْغِيَانِ ﴿٢٠﴾

baynahumā barzakhul lā yabghiyān

Between them is a barrier so neither of them transgresses.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٢١﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يَخْرُجُ مِنْهُمَا ٱللُّؤْلُؤُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ ﴿٢٢﴾

yakhruju minhuma llu'lu'u wal-marjān

From both of them emerge pearl and coral.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٢٣﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
وَلَهُ ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلْأَعْلَـٰمِ ﴿٢٤﴾

walahu l-jawāri l-munsha'ātu fi l-baḥri kal-aʿlām

And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٢٥﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍ ﴿٢٦﴾

kullu man ʿalayhā fān

Everyone upon it [i.e., the earth] will perish,
وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلْجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ ﴿٢٧﴾

wayabqā wajhu rabbika dhu l-jalāli wal-ikrām

And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٢٨﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يَسْـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ فِى شَأْنٍ ﴿٢٩﴾

yas'aluhū man fi s-samāwāti wal-arḍ | kulla yawmin huwa fī sha'n

Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him; every day He is in [i.e., bringing about] a matter.

For each of His creatures.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٣٠﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ أَيُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ ﴿٣١﴾

sanafrughu lakum 'ayyuha th-thaqalān

We will attend to you, O prominent beings.

Specifically two: mankind and jinn.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٣٢﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يَـٰمَعْشَرَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنْ أَقْطَارِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ ۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ ﴿٣٣﴾

yāmaʿshara l-jinni wal-insi 'ini staṭaʿtum 'an tanfudhū min 'aqṭāri s-samāwāti wal-arḍi fanfudhū | lā tanfudhūna 'illā bisulṭān

O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass. You will not pass except by authority [from Allāh].
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٣٤﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يُرْسَلُ عَلَيْكُمَا شُوَاظٌ مِّن نَّارٍ وَنُحَاسٌ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ ﴿٣٥﴾

yursalu ʿalaykumā shuwāẓum min nāriw wanuḥāsun falā tantaṣirān

There will be sent upon you a flame of fire and smoke, and you will not defend yourselves.

Another possible meaning is liquefied brass or copper.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٣٦﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ وَرْدَةً كَٱلدِّهَانِ ﴿٣٧﴾

fa'idha nshaqqati s-samā'u fakānat wardatan kad-dihān

And when the heaven is split open and becomes rose-colored like oil -

Or "like a tanned skin."
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٣٨﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُسْـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسٌ وَلَا جَآنٌّ ﴿٣٩﴾

fayawma'idhil lā yus'alu ʿan dhambihī 'insuw walā jānn

Then on that Day none will be asked about his sin among men or jinn.

Once they have been condemned to the Fire.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٤٠﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يُعْرَفُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ فَيُؤْخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِى وَٱلْأَقْدَامِ ﴿٤١﴾

yuʿrafu l-mujrimūna bisīmāhum fayu'khadhu bin-nawāṣī wal-aqdām

The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٤٢﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ ﴿٤٣﴾

hādhihī jahannamu llatī yukadhdhibu biha l-mujrimūn

This is Hell, which the criminals deny.
يَطُوفُونَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ حَمِيمٍ ءَانٍ ﴿٤٤﴾

yaṭūfūna baynahā wabayna ḥamīmin 'ān

They will circulate between it and scalding water, heated [to the utmost degree].
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٤٥﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ ﴿٤٦﴾

waliman khāfa maqāma rabbihī jannatān

But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens -

An alternative meaning is "the standing [for account] before his Lord."
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٤٧﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
ذَوَاتَآ أَفْنَانٍ ﴿٤٨﴾

dhawātā 'afnān

Having [spreading] branches.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٤٩﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ تَجْرِيَانِ ﴿٥٠﴾

fīhimā ʿaynāni tajriyān

In both of them are two springs, flowing.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٥١﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ زَوْجَانِ ﴿٥٢﴾

fīhimā min kulli fākihatin zawjān

In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٥٣﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشٍۭ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ ۚ وَجَنَى ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ دَانٍ ﴿٥٤﴾

muttaki'īna ʿalā furushim baṭā'inuhā min 'istabraq | wajana l-jannatayni dān

[They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٥٥﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِنَّ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّ ﴿٥٦﴾

fīhinna qāṣirātu ṭ-ṭarfi lam yaṭmithhunna 'insun qablahum walā jānn

In them are women limiting [their] glances, untouched before them by man or jinnī -

To their own mates, i.e., being chaste and modest.
Literally, they have not been caused to bleed by loss of virginity.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٥٧﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلْيَاقُوتُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ ﴿٥٨﴾

ka'annahunna l-yāqūtu wal-marjān

As if they were rubies and coral.

In purity, color and beauty.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٥٩﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
هَلْ جَزَآءُ ٱلْإِحْسَـٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلْإِحْسَـٰنُ ﴿٦٠﴾

hal jazā'u l-iḥsāni 'illa l-iḥsān

Is the reward for good [anything] but good?
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٦١﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ ﴿٦٢﴾

wamin dūnihimā jannatān

And below them both [in excellence] are two [other] gardens -
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٦٣﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
مُدْهَآمَّتَانِ ﴿٦٤﴾

mud-hāmmatān

Dark green [in color].
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٦٥﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ ﴿٦٦﴾

fīhimā ʿaynāni naḍḍākhatān

In both of them are two springs, spouting.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٦٧﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِمَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ وَنَخْلٌ وَرُمَّانٌ ﴿٦٨﴾

fīhimā fākihatuw wanakhluw warummān

In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٦٩﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَٰتٌ حِسَانٌ ﴿٧٠﴾

fīhinna khayrātun ḥisān

In them are good and beautiful women -
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٧١﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
حُورٌ مَّقْصُورَٰتٌ فِى ٱلْخِيَامِ ﴿٧٢﴾

ḥūrum maqṣūrātun fi l-khiyām

Fair ones reserved in pavilions -
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٧٣﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّ ﴿٧٤﴾

lam yaṭmithhunna 'insun qablahum walā jānn

Untouched before them by man or jinnī -
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٧٥﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ رَفْرَفٍ خُضْرٍ وَعَبْقَرِىٍّ حِسَانٍ ﴿٧٦﴾

muttaki'īna ʿalā rafrafin khuḍriw waʿabqariyyin ḥisān

Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿٧٧﴾

fabi'ayyi 'ālā'i rabbikumā tukadhdhibān

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱسْمُ رَبِّكَ ذِى ٱلْجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ ﴿٧٨﴾

tabāraka smu rabbika dhi l-jalāli wal-ikrām

Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

The Merciful one, possessor of vast mercy.
55:2
He taught the Qur’ān to people by making its memorization easy and facilitating the understanding of its meanings.
55:3
He created man perfectly and formed him in the best manner.
55:4
He taught him how to express what is within himself in speech and writing.
55:5
He fixed a perfectly calculated course for the sun and moon, to teach people the number of years and calculation.
55:6
Plants that do not have a stem and trees prostrate to Allah, (may He be glorified), in submission and surrender to Him.
55:7
He raised the sky above the earth as a roof for it. He established justice on earth and instructed His servants with it.
55:8
He established justice so that you, O people, are not unjust and deceitful in weighing and measurement.
55:9
Maintain the weighing justly between yourselves and do not give short weight or measure when you measure or weigh for others.

He prepared the earth for the creation to settle on it.

It contains trees that produce fruit and date-palms that have receptacles that split open to reveal clusters.
55:12
It contains grain with straw like wheat and barley and the different types of grain that you have been provided as food. It contains plants whose fragrances you find to be pleasant.

Which of Allah’s numerous favours to you, O group of Jinn and men, do you deny?

He created Adam (peace be upon him) from dried clay that has a clatter like that of baked clay.
55:15
He created the father of the jinn from a flame that is pure of smoke.

Which of Allah’s numerous favours to you, O group of Jinn and men, do you deny?

Lord of the sun’s two points of rising and its two points of setting in winter and summer.
55:18
Which of Allah’s numerous favours to you, O group of Jinn and men, do you deny?

Allah mixed the two seas, the salty and the sweet, that converge as far as the eye can see.
55:20
Between them is a barrier that prevents each one of them from transgressing over the other so that the sweet remains sweet and the salty remains salty.

Which of Allah’s numerous favours to you, O group of Jinn and men, do you deny?
