قَالَ

qāla

Said

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those who

ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟

is'takbarū

were arrogant

إِنَّا

innā

Indeed we

بِٱلَّذِىٓ

bi-alladhī

in that which

ءَامَنتُم

āmantum

you believe

بِهِۦ

bihi

in it

كَـٰفِرُونَ

kāfirūna

(are) disbelievers

فَعَقَرُوا۟

faʿaqarū

Then they hamstrung

ٱلنَّاقَةَ

l-nāqata

the she-camel

وَعَتَوْا۟

waʿataw

and (were) insolent

عَنْ

ʿan

towards

أَمْرِ

amri

(the) command

رَبِّهِمْ

rabbihim

(of) their Lord

وَقَالُوا۟

waqālū

and they said

يَـٰصَـٰلِحُ

yāṣāliḥu

O Salih

ٱئْتِنَا

i'tinā

Bring us

بِمَا

bimā

what

تَعِدُنَآ

taʿidunā

you promise us

إِن

in

if

كُنتَ

kunta

you are

مِنَ

mina

of

ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

l-mur'salīna

the Messengers

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ

fa-akhadhathumu

So seized them

ٱلرَّجْفَةُ

l-rajfatu

the earthquake

فَأَصْبَحُوا۟

fa-aṣbaḥū

then they became

فِى

fī

in

دَارِهِمْ

dārihim

their homes

جَـٰثِمِينَ

jāthimīna

fallen prone

فَتَوَلَّىٰ

fatawallā

So he turned away

عَنْهُمْ

ʿanhum

from them

وَقَالَ

waqāla

and he said

يَـٰقَوْمِ

yāqawmi

O my people

لَقَدْ

laqad

Verily

أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ

ablaghtukum

I have conveyed to you

رِسَالَةَ

risālata

(the) Message

رَبِّى

rabbī

(of) my Lord

وَنَصَحْتُ

wanaṣaḥtu

and [I] advised

لَكُمْ

lakum

[to] you

وَلَـٰكِن

walākin

but

لَّا

lā

not

تُحِبُّونَ

tuḥibbūna

you like

ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ

l-nāṣiḥīna

the advisers

وَلُوطًا

walūṭan

And Lut

إِذْ

idh

when

قَالَ

qāla

he said

لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ

liqawmihi

to his people

أَتَأْتُونَ

atatūna

Do you commit

ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ

l-fāḥishata

(such) immorality

مَا

mā

not

سَبَقَكُم

sabaqakum

has preceded you

بِهَا

bihā

therein

مِنْ

min

any

أَحَدٍۢ

aḥadin

one

مِّنَ

mina

of

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

l-ʿālamīna

the worlds

إِنَّكُمْ

innakum

Indeed, you

لَتَأْتُونَ

latatūna

you approach

ٱلرِّجَالَ

l-rijāla

the men

شَهْوَةًۭ

shahwatan

lustfully

مِّن

min

from

دُونِ

dūni

instead of

ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۚ

l-nisāi

the women

بَلْ

bal

Nay

أَنتُمْ

antum

you

قَوْمٌۭ

qawmun

(are) a people

مُّسْرِفُونَ

mus'rifūna

(who) commit excesses

وَمَا

wamā

And not

كَانَ

kāna

was

جَوَابَ

jawāba

(the) answer

قَوْمِهِۦٓ

qawmihi

(of) his people

إِلَّآ

illā

except

أَن

an

that

قَالُوٓا۟

qālū

they said

أَخْرِجُوهُم

akhrijūhum

Drive them out

مِّن

min

of

قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ

qaryatikum

your town

إِنَّهُمْ

innahum

Indeed, they

أُنَاسٌۭ

unāsun

(are) people

يَتَطَهَّرُونَ

yataṭahharūna

who keep themselves pure

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ

fa-anjaynāhu

So We saved him

وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ

wa-ahlahu

and his family

إِلَّا

illā

except

ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ

im'ra-atahu

his wife

كَانَتْ

kānat

she was

مِنَ

mina

of

ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ

l-ghābirīna

those who stayed behind

وَأَمْطَرْنَا

wa-amṭarnā

And We showered

عَلَيْهِم

ʿalayhim

upon them

مَّطَرًۭا ۖ

maṭaran

a rain

فَٱنظُرْ

fa-unẓur

So see

كَيْفَ

kayfa

how

كَانَ

kāna

was

عَـٰقِبَةُ

ʿāqibatu

(the) end

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

l-muj'rimīna

(of) the criminals

وَإِلَىٰ

wa-ilā

And to

مَدْيَنَ

madyana

Madyan

أَخَاهُمْ

akhāhum

his brother

شُعَيْبًۭا ۗ

shuʿayban

Shuaib

قَالَ

qāla

He said

يَـٰقَوْمِ

yāqawmi

O my people

ٱعْبُدُوا۟

uʿ'budū

Worship

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

مَا

mā

not

لَكُم

lakum

for you

مِّنْ

min

any

إِلَـٰهٍ

ilāhin

god

غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ

ghayruhu

other than Him

قَدْ

qad

Verily

جَآءَتْكُم

jāatkum

has came to you

بَيِّنَةٌۭ

bayyinatun

a clear proof

مِّن

min

from

رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ

rabbikum

your Lord

فَأَوْفُوا۟

fa-awfū

So give full

ٱلْكَيْلَ

l-kayla

[the] measure

وَٱلْمِيزَانَ

wal-mīzāna

and the weight

وَلَا

walā

and (do) not

تَبْخَسُوا۟

tabkhasū

deprive

ٱلنَّاسَ

l-nāsa

[the] people

أَشْيَآءَهُمْ

ashyāahum

in their things

وَلَا

walā

and (do) not

تُفْسِدُوا۟

tuf'sidū

cause corruption

فِى

fī

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

l-arḍi

the earth

بَعْدَ

baʿda

after

إِصْلَـٰحِهَا ۚ

iṣ'lāḥihā

its reformation

ذَٰلِكُمْ

dhālikum

That

خَيْرٌۭ

khayrun

(is) better

لَّكُمْ

lakum

for you

إِن

in

if

كُنتُم

kuntum

you are

مُّؤْمِنِينَ

mu'minīna

believers

وَلَا

walā

And (do) not

تَقْعُدُوا۟

taqʿudū

sit

بِكُلِّ

bikulli

on every

صِرَٰطٍۢ

ṣirāṭin

path

تُوعِدُونَ

tūʿidūna

threatening

وَتَصُدُّونَ

wataṣuddūna

and hindering

عَن

ʿan

from

سَبِيلِ

sabīli

(the) way

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

مَنْ

man

(those) who

ءَامَنَ

āmana

believe

بِهِۦ

bihi

in Him

وَتَبْغُونَهَا

watabghūnahā

and seeking (to make) it

عِوَجًۭا ۚ

ʿiwajan

crooked

وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟

wa-udh'kurū

And remember

إِذْ

idh

when

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you were

قَلِيلًۭا

qalīlan

few

فَكَثَّرَكُمْ ۖ

fakatharakum

and He increased you

وَٱنظُرُوا۟

wa-unẓurū

And see

كَيْفَ

kayfa

how

كَانَ

kāna

was

عَـٰقِبَةُ

ʿāqibatu

(the) end

ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ

l-muf'sidīna

(of) the corrupters

وَإِن

wa-in

And if

كَانَ

kāna

(there) is

طَآئِفَةٌۭ

ṭāifatun

a group

مِّنكُمْ

minkum

among you

ءَامَنُوا۟

āmanū

(who has) believed

بِٱلَّذِىٓ

bi-alladhī

in that which

أُرْسِلْتُ

ur'sil'tu

I have been sent

بِهِۦ

bihi

with [it]

وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ

waṭāifatun

and a group

لَّمْ

lam

not

يُؤْمِنُوا۟

yu'minū

they believe

فَٱصْبِرُوا۟

fa-iṣ'birū

then be patient

حَتَّىٰ

ḥattā

until

يَحْكُمَ

yaḥkuma

judges

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

بَيْنَنَا ۚ

baynanā

between us

وَهُوَ

wahuwa

And He

خَيْرُ

khayru

(is the) Best

ٱلْحَـٰكِمِينَ

l-ḥākimīna

(of) [the] Judges

۞ قَالَ

qāla

Said

ٱلْمَلَأُ

l-mala-u

the chiefs

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

(of) those who

ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟

is'takbarū

were arrogant

مِن

min

among

قَوْمِهِۦ

qawmihi

his people

لَنُخْرِجَنَّكَ

lanukh'rijannaka

We will surely drive you out

يَـٰشُعَيْبُ

yāshuʿaybu

O Shuaib

وَٱلَّذِينَ

wa-alladhīna

And those who

ءَامَنُوا۟

āmanū

(have) believed

مَعَكَ

maʿaka

with you

مِن

min

from

قَرْيَتِنَآ

qaryatinā

our city

أَوْ

aw

or

لَتَعُودُنَّ

lataʿūdunna

you must return

فِى

fī

to

مِلَّتِنَا ۚ

millatinā

our religion

قَالَ

qāla

He said

أَوَلَوْ

awalaw

Even if

كُنَّا

kunnā

we are

كَـٰرِهِينَ

kārihīna

(the) ones who hate (it)

قَدِ

qadi

Verily

ٱفْتَرَيْنَا

if'taraynā

we would have fabricated

عَلَى

ʿalā

against

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

كَذِبًا

kadhiban

a lie

إِنْ

in

if

عُدْنَا

ʿud'nā

we returned

فِى

fī

in

مِلَّتِكُم

millatikum

your religion

بَعْدَ

baʿda

after

إِذْ

idh

[when]

نَجَّىٰنَا

najjānā

saved us

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

مِنْهَا ۚ

min'hā

from it

وَمَا

wamā

And not

يَكُونُ

yakūnu

it is

لَنَآ

lanā

for us

أَن

an

that

نَّعُودَ

naʿūda

we return

فِيهَآ

fīhā

in it

إِلَّآ

illā

except

أَن

an

that

يَشَآءَ

yashāa

wills

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

رَبُّنَا ۚ

rabbunā

our Lord

وَسِعَ

wasiʿa

Encompasses

رَبُّنَا

rabbunā

(by) Our Lord

كُلَّ

kulla

every

شَىْءٍ

shayin

thing

عِلْمًا ۚ

ʿil'man

(in) knowledge

عَلَى

ʿalā

Upon

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

تَوَكَّلْنَا ۚ

tawakkalnā

we put our trust

رَبَّنَا

rabbanā

Our Lord

ٱفْتَحْ

if'taḥ

Decide

بَيْنَنَا

baynanā

between us

وَبَيْنَ

wabayna

and between

قَوْمِنَا

qawminā

our people

بِٱلْحَقِّ

bil-ḥaqi

in truth

وَأَنتَ

wa-anta

and You

خَيْرُ

khayru

(are the) Best

ٱلْفَـٰتِحِينَ

l-fātiḥīna

(of) those who Decide

وَقَالَ

waqāla

And said

ٱلْمَلَأُ

l-mala-u

the chiefs

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

(of) those who

كَفَرُوا۟

kafarū

disbelieved

مِن

min

among

قَوْمِهِۦ

qawmihi

his people

لَئِنِ

la-ini

If

ٱتَّبَعْتُمْ

ittabaʿtum

you follow

شُعَيْبًا

shuʿayban

Shuaib

إِنَّكُمْ

innakum

indeed, you

إِذًۭا

idhan

then

لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ

lakhāsirūna

(will be) certainly losers

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ

fa-akhadhathumu

Then seized them

ٱلرَّجْفَةُ

l-rajfatu

the earthquake

فَأَصْبَحُوا۟

fa-aṣbaḥū

then they became

فِى

fī

in

دَارِهِمْ

dārihim

their home(s)

جَـٰثِمِينَ

jāthimīna

fallen prone

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

Those who

كَذَّبُوا۟

kadhabū

denied

شُعَيْبًۭا

shuʿayban

Shuaib

كَأَن

ka-an

(became) as if

لَّمْ

lam

not

يَغْنَوْا۟

yaghnaw

they (had) lived

فِيهَا ۚ

fīhā

therein

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

Those who

كَذَّبُوا۟

kadhabū

denied

شُعَيْبًۭا

shuʿayban

Shuaib

كَانُوا۟

kānū

they were

هُمُ

humu

them

ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ

l-khāsirīna

the losers

فَتَوَلَّىٰ

fatawallā

So he turned away

عَنْهُمْ

ʿanhum

from them

وَقَالَ

waqāla

and said

يَـٰقَوْمِ

yāqawmi

O my people

لَقَدْ

laqad

Verily

أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ

ablaghtukum

I (have) conveyed to you

رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ

risālāti

(the) Messages

رَبِّى

rabbī

(of) my Lord

وَنَصَحْتُ

wanaṣaḥtu

and advised

لَكُمْ ۖ

lakum

[to] you

فَكَيْفَ

fakayfa

So how could

ءَاسَىٰ

āsā

I grieve

عَلَىٰ

ʿalā

for

قَوْمٍۢ

qawmin

a people

كَـٰفِرِينَ

kāfirīna

(who are) disbelievers

وَمَآ

wamā

And not

أَرْسَلْنَا

arsalnā

We sent

فِى

fī

in

قَرْيَةٍۢ

qaryatin

a city

مِّن

min

any

نَّبِىٍّ

nabiyyin

Prophet

إِلَّآ

illā

except

أَخَذْنَآ

akhadhnā

We seized

أَهْلَهَا

ahlahā

its people

بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ

bil-basāi

with adversity

وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ

wal-ḍarāi

and hardship

لَعَلَّهُمْ

laʿallahum

so that they may

يَضَّرَّعُونَ

yaḍḍarraʿūna

(become) humble

ثُمَّ

thumma

Then

بَدَّلْنَا

baddalnā

We changed

مَكَانَ

makāna

(in) place

ٱلسَّيِّئَةِ

l-sayi-ati

(of) the bad

ٱلْحَسَنَةَ

l-ḥasanata

the good

حَتَّىٰ

ḥattā

until

عَفَوا۟

ʿafaw

they increased

وَّقَالُوا۟

waqālū

and said

قَدْ

qad

Verily

مَسَّ

massa

(had) touched

ءَابَآءَنَا

ābāanā

our forefathers

ٱلضَّرَّآءُ

l-ḍarāu

the adversity

وَٱلسَّرَّآءُ

wal-sarāu

and the ease

فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم

fa-akhadhnāhum

So We seized them

بَغْتَةًۭ

baghtatan

suddenly

وَهُمْ

wahum

while they

لَا

lā

(did) not

يَشْعُرُونَ

yashʿurūna

perceive

وَلَوْ

walaw

And if

أَنَّ

anna

[that]

أَهْلَ

ahla

people

ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ

l-qurā

(of) the cities

ءَامَنُوا۟

āmanū

(had) believed

وَٱتَّقَوْا۟

wa-ittaqaw

and feared Allah

لَفَتَحْنَا

lafataḥnā

surely We (would have) opened

عَلَيْهِم

ʿalayhim

upon them

بَرَكَـٰتٍۢ

barakātin

blessings

مِّنَ

mina

from

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

l-samāi

the heaven

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

wal-arḍi

and the earth

وَلَـٰكِن

walākin

but

كَذَّبُوا۟

kadhabū

they denied

فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم

fa-akhadhnāhum

So We seized them

بِمَا

bimā

for what

كَانُوا۟

kānū

they used to

يَكْسِبُونَ

yaksibūna

earn

أَفَأَمِنَ

afa-amina

Then did feel secure

أَهْلُ

ahlu

(the) people

ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ

l-qurā

(of) the cities

أَن

an

that

يَأْتِيَهُم

yatiyahum

comes to them

بَأْسُنَا

basunā

Our punishment

بَيَـٰتًۭا

bayātan

(at) night

وَهُمْ

wahum

while they

نَآئِمُونَ

nāimūna

(were) asleep

أَوَأَمِنَ

awa-amina

Or felt secure

أَهْلُ

ahlu

(the) people

ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ

l-qurā

(of) the cities

أَن

an

that

يَأْتِيَهُم

yatiyahum

comes to them

بَأْسُنَا

basunā

Our punishment

ضُحًۭى

ḍuḥan

(in) daylight

وَهُمْ

wahum

while they

يَلْعَبُونَ

yalʿabūna

(were) playing

أَفَأَمِنُوا۟

afa-aminū

Then did they feel secure

مَكْرَ

makra

(from the) plan

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

فَلَا

falā

But not

يَأْمَنُ

yamanu

feel secure

مَكْرَ

makra

(from the) plan

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

إِلَّا

illā

except

ٱلْقَوْمُ

l-qawmu

the people

ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ

l-khāsirūna

(who are) the losers

أَوَلَمْ

awalam

Would it not

يَهْدِ

yahdi

guide

لِلَّذِينَ

lilladhīna

[for] those who

يَرِثُونَ

yarithūna

inherit

ٱلْأَرْضَ

l-arḍa

the land

مِنۢ

min

from

بَعْدِ

baʿdi

after

أَهْلِهَآ

ahlihā

its people

أَن

an

that

لَّوْ

law

if

نَشَآءُ

nashāu

We willed

أَصَبْنَـٰهُم

aṣabnāhum

We (could) afflict them

بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۚ

bidhunūbihim

for their sins

وَنَطْبَعُ

wanaṭbaʿu

and We put a seal

عَلَىٰ

ʿalā

over

قُلُوبِهِمْ

qulūbihim

their hearts

فَهُمْ

fahum

so they

لَا

lā

(do) not

يَسْمَعُونَ

yasmaʿūna

hear
